The 2.5L diesel is currently the only model with a manual transmission.

All Touareg models are permanent 4x4.
Can I fit a baby seat to the front passenger seat?
Yes you can, but you must turn off the passenger airbag before you do. There is a rotary key switch located at the front left hand side of the centre console for this purpose. Turning off the airbag will illuminate a warning light on the dashboard to notify the driver. The outer rear seats and front passenger seat have the 'Isofix' system.
Why do you have to put you foot on the brake to start the engine?
This is a safety feature for automatic cars to prevent accidental starting.
After start up, what's the brief 'buzzing noise' after I move away?
This is the ABS system performing a function check.
Can you over rev the engine?
No, the engine management system has a rev limiter which will cut in to prevent the engine over revving.
Where is the engine air intake located?
The engine air intake is located just behind the headlight/s at about the same level.
Are the front wings made of plastic?
Yes, as it reduces the weight of the vehicle.
When does the car need servicing?
There are two types of service regime, Longlife and Time & Distance. When set to Longlife, the car self monitors depending upon driving style. When set to Time & Distance, the service is due at set parameters. For both regimes, the car will automatically notify the driver when it's due for a service.
Why do my head lights move about when I turn them on?
Cars fitted with bi-xenon headlights will go through a 'range of movement check' when they are first turned on to ensure they adjust when driving.
Where is the battery?
The main battery is located under the passenger front seat.
If the car is fitted with an aux battery this is located in the boot under the spare wheel.
Is it possible to start the car with a flat battery?
You won't be able to start the car if the battery is low or flat.
If I leave the radio on will it flatten the battery?
If the ignition is turned off, there is a time-out on the radio and interior lights that will cut the power.
What tyre pressures should be used?
There is a placard on the closure area of the driver's door giving tyre pressures.
Is the spare tyre a space saver?
Yes. It is a deflated space saver that you need to inflate before putting on the car.
