Sweden

Availability - Now fully booked for 2008

The meadows, forests and tundra of Sweden are covered by a sparkling white blanket of snow well into the spring, and the long, well-stocked lakes are topped with centimetres of ice. The idyllic villages with their characteristic red houses and simple, plain churches look to have been undisturbed for centuries, nestling in the wide, peaceful valleys. Far above everything is the sky – the most vivid blue imaginable.

Somewhere here in the icy heart of Scandinavia between Norway and Lapland is our destination: Kall, the perfect motoring playground for enthusiasts from around the world. Your route through the snow passes high, dark green firs and snow-covered Swedish lakes – the secret is just to follow the white clouds of snow thrown up by those ahead of you.

This exclusive Volkswagen driving experience trip focuses on unique driving and safety training for the winter, taking to the wheel of the Tiguan and the Golf R32 on a frozen lake with demanding and impressively laid-out ice circuits.

At the end of each day, participants can relax at the exclusive Kall Auto Lodge. It's a trip which offers a unique blend of exceptional comfort with the ultimate in automotive adventure.

Day 1.

You will fly from Germany to the Swedish capital, Stockholm. From here, you will get a connecting flight to Östersund in the central Swedish province of Jämtland. From here, there is a bus transfer to your home during your stay, the Kall Auto Lodge. Kall is the ideal place for winter driving training in the Tiguan and Golf R32. World Rally Championship teams regularly test their vehicles on ice and snow here. There are long and demanding ice circuits for the ultimate in driving fun. After checking in at the lodge, you will meet your instructors. There will be a short talk, and then your first exciting adventure on ice – take your seats and be driven in a rally Tiguan. You will then dine together and be given a briefing about what to expect for the next few days.

Day 2.

You wake up to your first morning in Sweden's snowy Jämtland, somewhere between Norway and Lapland. After a cheerful "God morgon!", it's time for a hearty Swedish breakfast. This will stand you in good stead for an interesting training session on handling and safety on icy surfaces. During the first exercise in the Tiguan and Golf R32, you will already take to the ice – "controlled oversteering" may sound dry and technical, but it is guaranteed to get the pulse racing. A simple lunch will be served in a tepee en route: just the thing to replenish your energy reserves before getting back to the lake. Before dinner, there's time for another drive with the instructors and lots of useful, individual tips for the following day. And after dinner together – and a warming digestif should you wish – all that remains is to toast some of the day's best mishaps before going to bed. "God natt!"

Day 3.

After breakfast, a host of new activities awaits you: the Tiguan and Golf R32 are all set. The initial drive on a demanding lake route will be followed by technical feedback from the instructors. You will soon notice that these direct assessments of your performance are important for your own driving technique. A generous lunch awaits in the tepee once again, after which the focus will turn back to one of the sportiest types of driving: if you succeed here, you will already have a highly developed sense of safe driving. There's still time to take to the snow again, should you wish – this time on snowmobiles instead of by car. The snowmobile tour is available for a supplement and will take you on a journey through wonderfully unspoilt winter landscape. This is followed by one last circuit to bring the day to a close on the ice. This action-packed day draws to a close with dinner together and a trip to the bar.

Day 4.

On parting, the Swedes say "På återseende", or "Until we meet again", and they really do mean it. After breakfast, the bus sets off for Östersund airport and the flight back to Frankfurt via Stockholm. You will take with you lots of wonderful memories from the far north, not least of your experience on various icy surfaces, which will have given you a valuable understanding of driving and safety behind the wheel – a significant improvement within only a few days that will enable you to enjoy your Volkswagen to the full.
