People setting foot on African soil for the first time are always overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the continent. If you want to get your bearings here quickly, you need to abandon familiar European principles of space and distance.

Arriving in Africa also means letting your mind run free – all the way to the neverending horizon and back. Many new visitors to the continent feel a sense of relief and liberation after only a few days. Anthropologists think they have deciphered it and visitors to Africa will recognise it instinctively: this is the cradle of humanity. A strange sensation of having come home accompanies visitors throughout their trip.

The Touareg eats up the miles of main and secondary roads with ease, covering the diverse landscape in no time: hot, barren desert; bright savanna with wild animals dotted around, grazing peacefully; and the vibrant, dark green vegetation which plays host to the survival of the fittest on a constant basis. The Okavango Delta is the backdrop of an unforgettable off-road adventure – a paradise which is so unspoilt that it will change any previous notions of paradise for ever.

Day 1.

You will fly from Frankfurt to South Africa.

Day 2.

You will travel on from South Africa to Maun in Botswana. Maun is known as the gateway to the spectacular Okavango Delta. Your instructors will meet you at the airport and drive you to Riley's Hotel in a picturesque setting on the banks of the Thamalakane river. There you will check in and enjoy an excellent lunch before being given a briefing on a few important details of off-road driving. Before taking to the wheel of your Touareg, you will be given an introduction to the special technology on board. Then you will have your first chance to explore the nearby area. The day will draw to a close with a delicious dinner in the hotel restaurant.

Day 3.

After a relaxed breakfast, you will set off northwards to the Moremi Game Reserve. This exciting route passes through the habitat of large herds of elephants and zebras and gazelles. You will stop en route for lunch together in this fascinating wilderness, before taking sandy tracks to Xakanaxa Camp, right on the lagoon. You will take your evening meal in this romantic atmosphere out in the wild, at the heart of Africa's fascinating natural world.

Day 4.

The proceedings get off to an early start today, with a lengthy pre-breakfast safari. Scouts who know the area like the back of their hand will take you to the best-known watering holes, where you can watch the elephants performing their daily ablutions. After the drive, you will head back to the lodge for brunch before having the afternoon to yourself. There will be a second safari before your evening meal and this time, you might be lucky enough to observe lions on their daily prowl. This eventful day will be rounded off by an excellent dinner together at Xakanaxa Camp.

Day 5.

The drive today follows the River Khwai into the Mababe Depression. This fertile area is home to large herds of elephants and gazelles. A tasty picnic will be served for lunch, before moving on to Chobe National Park, a protected reserve with one of the broadest varieties of species in Africa and also one of the most beautiful nature reserves on the continent. You will put the Touareg through its paces on the sandy tracks, arriving in the evening at Savuti Lodge, which is inside the national park. After sunset, you will have the unique opportunity to watch the shyer animals approach the lodge's watering hole before enjoying an exclusive dinner in the lodge yourself.

Day 6.

There will be another early safari to tempt you out of your luxurious accommodation this morning. With scenes of the park fresh in your mind, you will return to the lodge, where the table will be laid for a relaxed brunch. You will then hop back into the Touareg to drive on to the Khwai River Lodge in the Moremi Wildlife Reserve. You will come across large wild animals again and again on the drive. As dusk falls, you will go on another safari adventure, observing hunting packs and their prey, before enjoying a tasty dinner.

Day 7.

You will take breakfast with a wonderful view of the African countryside before leaving the wildlife reserve and making your way back to Maun. You will stop at Riley's Hotel again for lunch and then fly back to Germany via South Africa.
